THE SHINE IN A MOTHER'S EYE
The topic deals with persons who experience disfunctional relationships due to their parents having a narcissistic personality disorder.
The psychoanalyst Heinz Kohut researched reflections by caregivers, if a baby received an adequate reflection towards needs, feelings and communication. He found out that appreciation and empathy with reflections to rapidly changing psychosomatic reactions of a child are decisively responsible for the child's development and a vital self-consciousness. By missing essential fulfillments, a holistic development could be disturbed and could cause future neuroses. Kohut describes the shine of a mother's eye as a mirror of emotional response.
Affected children mostly have to deal with steady reflection of themselves in their adulthood, to learn express their desires without losing themselves in provocation or, diametrically opposed, complete conformation. The search for own emotional roots and opening to it, is a lifelong process.
